Veterinarian Feed Directive for Honey Bees

Solution for the VFD issue in Florida.

When the Honey Bee was designated as livestock in Florida the treatment of honey bees fell also under the livestock rulings.  If you need antibiotics for honey bees/livestock this can only be applied under veterinarian supervision.  Since there are not many Vet Offices that have beekeeping experience, a solution had to be developed.  The FSBA in cooperation with FDACS and the UF-Beelab has created a way for Florida beekeepers to request prescriptions.  By completing the request on BeeVFD.com, the FDACS will check the beekeepers' registration status and the registered hive count, if all is correct, will send the approval for a veterinarian to write a script for the beekeeper to purchase the medication.
